Grade 8 History Test

Grade 8 students will have their final history class and assessment for this subject on Thursday, Jan. 26th. On Tuesday, Jan. 24th we will spend part of the class doing preparation and practice questions. The test will cover ONLY material in chapter # 9 of the history text "Canada and the Coming of the First World War". The test will be OPEN BOOK. Test questions will comprise of all types of questions (knowledge, thinking and application). It is VERY important that students review the chapter at home to be familiar with the content and therefore will be able to complete the necessary critical thinking required for success.

We will begin the subject of geography in February.

Grade 8 Math Assignment

Grade 8 students concerned about their Geometry mark were given the option of completing an additional assignment to improve their mark. The assignment was handed out today and is due by the end of the day on Thursday (Jan. 26th).

Grade 8 ART HOMEWORK

You're pattern/symmetry/colours assignment was due today. If you have not handed in your art work, please do so by tomorrow, Friday, January 20th.

We are now moving on to our "Street/Graffiti Art" Unit.

Gr. 8's - HIGH SCHOOL INFO!!!!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!

If you are applying to any other school/program outside of your home school, YOU MUST SUBMIT THE BLUE OPTIONAL ATTENDANCE FORM TO MS. SMYE BY TOMMOROW!!!

The forms must be signed by Mr. Noble, checked over by Ms. Smye, photocopied and returned to the student in time to bring it to the respective high schools by February 1st.

Grade 8 Language

Your written response to the following question is due tomorrow, Friday, January 20th.

Is the loss of diversity worth the gain of sameness?

Responses should be no more than 1 typed page double spaced or 2 written pages double spaced.
Responses must include an intro (state your opinion), list and explain three reasons for your answer.

**** If you have missed the last couple of Language classes where we discussed sameness vs diversity in our society, you will have an extension on this assignment and will need to come and see me so you can get the info/notes/questions we have been working on in class.

Complete the 'Explore' section on page 10 of your textbook, then read the information on pages 10 and 11. Complete questions 1, 3 and 5 on page 12.

Grade 8 Math - Algebraic Equations

Read the information on pages 418 and 419 of your textbook. Then complete questions 1 to 8 on those same pages.

NOVEL STUDY BOOKS AND REPORT

Grade 6 and 7 students MUST have their novel study books read by WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25th. The novel study reports are due MONDAY, JANUARY 30TH.
Students will have class time, computer time and will need to do some work on their own at home to complete the READING AND BOOK REPORTS

Each group will also be responsible for creating a board game based on their novel. Details and due date to follow for the board game.

Setting, characters and vocabulary pg. 3 & 4

Magazine assessment for grade 6 and 7 students

Attention parents: The magazines students created in language and the assessment has been completed and reviewed with students. All students have been instructed to take the completed project and the assessment paper home to share with parents. The magazines were read and well received by Mr. Rezza's and Ms. Smye's classes!!
Our next project involves a novel study, a small group literature circle and the creation of a children's picture book.

Grade 7-8 Health - Responses to Jonah

You will have one final work period tomorrow (Friday, Jan 13th) to work on your responses. We will begin to present them during Science class next week. Do not forget that you must accompany your response with a song. It can be on CD or your ipod. A stereo/ipod speaker will be provided.

Grade 8 Language - Novel Study - The Giver

Find the following terms in chapters 11-15, record the page number where you found it as well as the sentence it's in. Then define the term (write out the definition or give a synonym for the word).

Answer the following questions;
1. How did Jonas's relationship with his friends and family change after he received his assignment?

4. According to The Giver, why does Jonas have to receive and store memories of pain?
5. Why do you think the author put the memory of war in a separate chapter instead of making it part of another chapter?

These questions and definitions are due tomorrow. They should be complete since you had 3 language periods to work on them on Wednesday, Jan 11th.
